Chanthaburi raises red flag as floods hit 8 districts

CHANTHABURI — 27 September 2026, Chanthaburi authorities raised the flood warning from yellow to red, warning that a large volume of water was flowing toward the city as flooding affected eight districts and left two people dead.

The Chanthaburi Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation raised the warning level along the Chanthaburi River and at key locations around the city.

Water levels were rising rapidly and approaching the 3.50-meter critical level, as large volumes of water from Khao Khitchakut and Makham districts continued flowing downstream.

Authorities warned residents living along the Chanthaburi River, communities near the Phakdi Ramphai Canal, downstream areas and flood-prone locations in the inner economic zone of Mueang Chanthaburi to move belongings to higher ground and relocate vehicles to safe areas.

The Royal Irrigation Department and other agencies were also working to open gates at the Phakdi Ramphai Canal to divert water toward the sea.

Flash floods hit Tha Mai

At Ban Khlong Sao in Village 4, Khao Kaeo subdistrict, Tha Mai district, flash floods struck after water from Kaeng Hang Maeo district combined with accumulated rainfall.

Floodwater reportedly surged into the community within 10 minutes.

Rescue workers and other agencies deployed six boats and jet skis to evacuate residents, transport them to shelters and distribute food and drinking water.

Residents described the flooding as the most severe and fastest-moving they had experienced in around 15 years.

Eight districts affected

The latest report said flooding had affected eight districts, 29 subdistricts and 153 villages, involving 936 households across Chanthaburi province.

Two deaths have been confirmed.
